postheadericon The Schools

Many of the schools in the Democratic Republic of Congo are initially built of wood with mud - brick filling in the spaces. The roofs are tin. As can be seen in these photos, the classrooms are primitive with only a single chalkboard and rough - hewn benches and desks. When it rains, the floors which are dirt become muddy.

The second set of photos shows a school which is being "improved." It receives windows and walls made of brick. Generally, 1 or 2 classrooms are improved as money becomes available. You can see the difference it makes and how much nicer the school is once this has been accomplished.
