Mission Statement

Inspired by Christian values and personal life story, regardless of gender or religion, Kids in the Congo is dedicated to lifting up from poverty and hopelessness the poorest of the poor by providing them with the gift of an education through high school level in Eastern Congo. Our goal is to ensure that education will break the cycle of poverty and hopelessness by opening the door of opportunities to the youth; tomorrow’s leaders.

Objectives:

  • Raising awareness to the plight of Congolese children and their families, the focus being the diocese of Butembo-Beni in Eastern Congo.
  • Restoring hope and dignity by supporting or sponsoring the elementary and secondary education of a child.
  • Working in partnership with the Assumptionist Missionaries in the Congo as they strive to “go wherever God is threatened in the human person and the human person threatened as the image of God.
  • To commit ourselves to ensuring continuity for the children enrolled in the program through high school.

Poverty has a face...

Poverty is anonymous and distant for those who have not encountered it personally. Not for me. I know what it means to be from a poor family and to grow up in a poor neighborhood. It significantly impacted me and many more. We can reduce this impact if we are sensitive to other people. Poverty has the face of a child who has not been given the opportunity to explore his/her potentialities. We all believe that education opens a door for opportunities. You can open that door for a child. You make a difference in the world by supporting the education of a child. And what does it take to sponsor the education of a child in Eastern Congo? We are asking you to contribute $50 annually. Yes, the price of a few movie tickets or your cup of cappuccino. This may sound unbelievable but it is true.
