| Become a can/bottle collector
If you live in Sturbridge, Holland or Brimfield, MA become a can/bottle collector. I pick up from homes in those communities. Also, Velvet Greene Garden Center (RT 20) on the town line between Sturbridge/Brimfield is a drop off point. See Salli or Marty for where to place bags of recyclables. Some of my notable c an/bottle collectors include Hooya's Restaurant and BT's Smokehouse both located on Rt 20 in Brimfield.
Sponsor a can/bottle drive
You can sponsor your own can/bottle drive in your community, neighborhood, workplace or school. Fr. Sal developed a power point presentation which provides some background information on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), a mini geography lesson of Africa and how this project helps the Assumptionists reach out to children who otherwise would not have the opportunity to go to school..

Feed a child (and their family)
Feeding a child and his family is as simple as making a donation of any amount. It costs about $1 per day to feed a child in the Congo. Since most families have several children and parents, we figured a $10 donation would cover a family. The schools do not provide lunch like here in the U.S. The children walk from their villages to school, attend school for the day and then walk home. Most of the time, this is on an empty stomach. Even if they are fed on one day, there is no guarantee when and where the next meal will come from.
Nourish a child's spirit
Nourishing a child's spirit involves providing a children's Bible in either Swahili or French, which are the main languages spoken in Eastern Congo. They can be purchased in Nairobi so the shipping costs are nominal.

Sponsoring a child is probably the easiest way to help. Simply write a check for $50. Your tax deductible donation can be made out to: St. Anne/Cans for Kids
16 Church St.
Fiskdale, MA 01518.
Adopting a child means that you agree to send $50 per year until a child completes high school. Since most of our children are 2nd/3rd graders, this is a 9 or 10 year commitment. At this time, all we can guarantee is a picture of "your" child. Once Sal returns to the Congo in 2011, he will recruit someone who will help the children who are adopted to write simple letters in English and also be able to write a short biography of the child, their family and their village. My sister has committed to this. Thanks Debbie ! :-)
